Atomic Structure & Chemical Bondings
Mastery Workshop

“This workshop is really, really AWESOME!! The first day I went to this workshop, I thought ‘jia lat’. Sure Die. I thought won’t know anything. But I was wrong! Sean went through from the very basic stuff he promised. It really helped me clarify my doubts and I found out stuff that I didn’t know. I tell you Sean, you just carry on what you are doing. You are damn good at it! I am sure you have been as inspiring as your chemistry teacher in your secondary school days. Jia You! =)”
Shaun Siong Zhi Sheng, Evergreen Secondary School, C6 to A2 (O Levels 2009)
In Chemistry, many of the topics are usually related from one chapter to another. Atomic Structure & Chemical Bondings (Ionic, Covalent & Metallic) are the MOST CRUCIAL topics for any student starting to learn Chemistry. Whether they eventually like or dislike, love or hate, smile or frown, on Chemistry – really depends on their mastery of these basic but essential topics. Students must have an EXCELLENT understanding because these topics form the “building blocks” where many other Chemistry topics are built on these basic foundations.
WARNING! Students need to score at least 85% (upon 100?%) for these topics, if not they will be in t rouble later on. Sec 2s be warned! Sec 3s take note! Sec 4s you must know by now!

In Atomic Structure & Chemical Bondings Mastery Workshop, students will learn:
ATOMIC STRUCTURE:
- Relative charges & masses of Proton, Neutron & Electron
- How to effectively draw the structure of any atom using the Periodic Table
- Proton (atomic) number & nucleon (mass) number and how it is used in calculations
- The definition of isotopes & their importance in Chemistry
- Strategies to determine the number of protons, neutrons & electrons in an atom/ion
CHEMICAL BONDINGS (Covalent, Ionic & Metallic):
- Effective strategies to determine any Covalent or Ionic Substances
- Strategies to draw ‘dot-and-cross’ diagrams for both Covalent & Ionic Compounds
- Differences between Simple Molecular Substances & Giant Molecular Structures
- How different structures contributes to the different properties of covalent compounds
- How the lattice structure contributes to the special properties of Ionic Compounds
- Structure of metals as a lattice of positive ions in a ‘sea of electrons’
- How the electrical conductivity of metals are affected by their structures

“It is much clearer and we were able to have a much better understanding for Chemistry. I have also learned and benefited a lot from this workshop. I still enjoyed it! Thank you so much. You, Sean is also very comical in your actions and speech. Do keep up the good work of teaching / imparting all your Chemistry knowledge (opening the world of chemistry to me…). Thank you once again. God bless!”
Elizabeth Ng Ri Hui, Paya Lebar Methodist Girl’s School (PLMGS), C6 to B3 (O Levels 2009)
“It seems to be easier to understand. It has helped me to have more confidence when doing Chemistry. If my friends had the opportunity to attend these 4 days of Intensive Classes, they would readily accept.”
Nikhil A Bheeroo, College du St. Espirit, Mauritius
(International student taking GCE O Level Exams 2009, flown 7hrs to attend workshop)
“I understood and remember the Chemistry Concepts better after attending this workshop. I think the flipcharts were very very very useful in summarizing what was taught earlier. This workshop has also taught me to manage my time better in exam through the time limit to each question Sean gives. 100% recommended to all of my friends in school especially those weak in Chemistry.”
Poon Chern Yung, Maris Stella High School 2009
“I understand some of the chapters more than when I was in school. I feel like I can remember more now. This programme gets me ready when school reopens. =)”
Brandon Eng, ACS (International) 2009
